To answer the original question, there are six and only six dune novels: I have just begun reading dune. Two more are planned house harkonnen and a third that i believe is titled house corrino 4 weeks later. Dune (1965), dune messiah (1969), and children of dune (1976) by frank herbert; If you are still hooked then you can see what happens to his kids. I am confused about dune. The 1st book is just amazing.

From what i can tell, they are prequels and sequels and other related titles. I’m not sure where else to post this, but regardless i’m currently a fairly light reader.
In which case, yeah, you'll probably find the prequels/sequels written by his son and kj anderson disappointing. I'm loving dune so far and find that i can't put it down easily. I personally found the fifth (heretics of dune) and sixth (chapterhouse of dune) novels rather fascinating simply because they show the believable evolution and growth of this fictional universe that is quite rare to see (not to mention shedding considerable light on the whole bene gesserit idea/question). I am confused about dune. Hey guys and girls i will start reading the first book of the series soon because it has been on my list for quite some time and i've wondered how. Many people don't go past dune and that's fine.
